About Amethyst
Amethyst, a quartz variety (SiO₂), is prized for its purple to violet color, caused by iron impurities. It also appears in pink, lavender, red-tipped, chevron, and even greenish shades (prasiolite). Known for beauty and metaphysical properties, it’s also the February birthstone.
Where It’s Found
Major sources include Brazil, Africa, Uruguay, Zambia, Canada, Afghanistan, Mexico, Russia, and the USA.
Uses
Amethyst is popular for faceting, cabochon making, beads, wire-wrapped jewelry, healing, home décor, feng shui, and collector specimens.
Meaning & History
Historically associated with protection, clarity, and calmness, amethyst has been valued since ancient Greece and medieval Europe. Today, it remains a favorite for fine jewelry and thoughtful gifts, especially for those born in February.
